Thomas Swope’s Memorial might be one of the most well hidden gems of the entire park.
The memorial has been developed in a few different phases, each adding unique elements to the memorial.
The site was chosen as it overlooks the park and provides dramatic views of the entire area. The first part of the monument was built in 1918 based off of designs drawn by George Kessler in 1915. Shortly after, Charles Keck sculpted the lions and decorative bronze features. The fountain and balustrade were added in 1923.
